CAPER Awards

The Pershing Angels history says that the CAPER Award were first given out in 1969.  I don't remember any awards being given that year.  That's because in 1970, Iris Rodriguez asked me to take charge of getting awards given out for the first time!  I sent letters and applications to all the units, received the applications, ordered the ribbons and had them ready for the convention.  I was really surprised when Iris gave awards to Paulette Kikugawa and myself.  Later she awarded me the first National Commander's Award!

As I have thought about that statement above, it may be that in 1969 a few award applications were submitted and were just mailed to the recipients.  But in 1970 it was an effort to make sure that all companies knew they could send in award applications (and had the applications).  Those awards were then announced at the convention.

The CAPER Awards were:

Yellow Rose Award

Red Rose Award

White Rose Award

Distinguished Service Award

National Commander's Award

Eventually I'd like to add the name of Award Recipients to this page, please send us their information and put their award on year in the information space.  I have 3 the award ribbons on the ribbons page, the ones I received (Yellow Rose Award, Distinguished Service Award and National Commander's Award).  We till need pictures of the others.  I also want everyone else's opinion on which ribbon is which.  Go to the ribbons page.

Here is another memory blast for any of you who received awards.  Here is the award citation from when Iris gave me the Yellow Rose Award and Distinguished Service Award in 1970.  She completely retyped the form since the standard form had a line for the company commander's recommendation and only the National Commander was signing it.
